One day hartal in Trincomalee

The one day hartal organised by a group calling itself the Tamil People's Alliance brought life to standstill in the Trincomalee Town with banks, schools, Government offices and most shops closed and transport services paralysed.

The hartal was called to protest against Army presence in the Trincomalee town.Meanwhile, in another incident, Air Force officers foiled an LTTE attempt to hurl a grenade at the Mitsui Cement Factory in Cod Bay, Trincomalee.

Two LTTE youths armed with a grenade had attempted to throw a grenade at Air Force officers providing security to company workers on duty despite the hartal called by the LTTE. The Air Force officers had opened fire at the cadres.

One critically injured LTTEer was admitted to Trincomalee Hospital ICU. According to Trincomalee Police, the LTTEers were aged 17 and 18.
