Sri Lanka College of Journalism first graduation ceremony on Monday
The Sri Lanka College of Journalism will conduct its first ceremony
of graduation on June 6 Monday at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
Some 24 students who have successfully completed the course will receive
certificates today.
Miguel Bermeo, the UN Resident Representative in Sri Lanka will be
the Chief Guest of the event.
After a one-year, full time and hands on training course, the
students say they are ready to make a difference in Sri Lankan
journalism. Most of them have already been attached to some newspapers
and electronic media institutions.
"I am happy to see that most of our graduating diploma students are
already busy practising their profession at many reputed news desks.
They are successfully facing the challenges of journalism. The college
is proud of them" says Dr. Uvais Ahamed, Director of the Sri Lanka
College of Journalism.
The college was set up by the Editor's Guild, The Newspaper Society
of Sri Lanka and the Free Media Movement and is working in close
partnership with the Swedish Journalism institute Fojo under the Sri
Lanka Press Institute (SLPI).
The College conducts, apart from the Diploma Course, training
workshops for mid-career journalists with Swedish journalism experts. It
has already completed some 10 mid-career workshops at the College
premises. |
