AWPA sterilisation program in Kochchikade
The Animal Welfare and Protection Association will conduct their next
free sterilization program of Cats and Dogs at the Montessori school
opposite the Police Station, Kochchikade on Sunday from 8.00 a.m. to 12
noon.
Veterinary Surgeons from the Faculty of Veterinary Science,
Peradeniya will conduct the program.
The program has been sponsored by GRAF CHAPTER friends of dogs in Sri
Lanka and IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) The objective of
the program is to prevent rabies through the reduction of the stray
population of dogs and cats.
It is well known that pet owners whose pets have unwanted litter dump
pups and kittens at temples, markets, garbage collection points etc to
fend for themselves. This is one of the main reasons for a steady
increase of strays all over the island.
Those sterilizing their animals are requested to ensure that the
following conditions are met:- Only dogs and cats in good health and
over six months are brought to be sterilised.
All animals to be operated should be on an empty stomach deprived of
water and food over a 12 hour period prior to the operation. Cats should
be brought in a box or cage and dogs should be on a leash. |
