Within Companies Act : Private, international schools monitored
The Ministry of Education has begun a process of evaluating and
monitoring the academic activities of private/international schools
registered within the Companies Act.
Over 220 schools, all over the island function as "private" schools
and are preparing Sri Lankan children for mostly Sri Lanka examinations.
Some of these schools have the bare necessities and academic staff to
conduct quality education, an Education Ministry release said.
Almost all offer English medium education. The Ministry's evaluation
and Quality Assurance Unit has set out a minimum criteria (for both
physical infrastructure and academic activity) for such schools.
A monitoring system has been established for accreditation. The
Ministry is also offering training for teachers and principals of these
schools.
The Ministry Quality Assurance Unit has begun to work closely with
the principals and staff of these schools so that continued monitoring
of school activities can take place. |
