ICT paves way for efficient monitoring of Maganeguma
Over 400 roads across the country, set to be reconstructed under the
Maganeguma National Road Development program, will be inaugurated by
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse today.
Work will start simultaneously in all locations, for the first time
in Sri Lanka and the Prime Minister will be using information and
communication technology to monitor the work of multiple locations
during the course of the day.
Live data feeds from locations in four electorates, namely Balangoda,
Kalaweva, Sooriyawewa and Yapahuwa will simultaneously reach the central
control room situated at Temple Trees enabling the Prime Minister to
communicate with persons on the field and then in return to communicate
back. The live streaming video will be transmitted via satellite through
internet technology.
This is a historic moment for the country as it is the first time a
Prime Minister has used ICT for site monitoring of projects.
This initiative was facilitated by the Information Communication
Technology agency of Sri Lanka.
Programme Director of the ICTA Reshan Dewapura said that the Agency
is fully committed to supporting the Prime Minister in continuing this
endeavour. It is believed that this is a significant step towards the
establishment of e-Governance in the country.
Facilities and ground staff was provided by Electroteks Global
Services (pvt) Ltd. Equipment for the field and the control room was
provided by PC House, DPIT, Walksideways (Pvt) Ltd and Sala Enterprises. |
