Housing aid for tsunami victims tops Rs. 453 m


The Government under its program of providing houses to those who have lost their abodes in the tsunami has provided Rs. 453,520,000 as housing assistance among 8,237 affected families through the two main state banks, People's Bank and Bank of Ceylon upto April 30 this year.

Electricity Board TU action called off


The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Trade Unions decided to abandon the trade union action scheduled from today following an agreement reached with the Government by their representatives at a discussion held at Temple Trees, Colombo on Saturday.

USD 65 m for People's Bank restructure


The Asian Development Bank will allocate US dollars 65 million to assist the restructure of People's Bank. The amount would be given to the Bank as a loan within a period of three years.
