Indian infrastructure facilities to milk farmers

The Indian Government has agreed to provide research and technical training to researchers in the field of livestock in Sri Lanka and to grant infrastructure facilities to milk farmers, stated an Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation Ministry media release yesterday.

The Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Nirupama Rao, in the course of her bilateral talks with Minister Anura Kumara Dissanayake, on October 14, agreed to help Sri Lanka in her efforts to uplift milk production industry and pledged necessary technical assistance to establish dairies on a divisional basis.

She also promised Indian technical assistance to promote veterinary laboratories and to supply livestock medicine under Indian Government sponsorship.

Special CID team to trace 15 foreign nationals

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has deployed a special team to trace the fifteen Malaysian nationals who are alleged to have been involved in using forged credit cards in Sri Lanka.

This was revealed by CID officials before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne while producing a Malaysian couple who are alleged to have used a forged credit card to purchase gold wrist watch valued at over Rs. 75,000 from a shop in Kollupitya.

The CID investigators said that according to the statement made by the suspects now in custody, about fifteen Malaysian nationals had come to Sri Lanka from Malaysia recently.

The special CID team deployed by the DIG CID is trying to ascertain the authenticity of the lengthy statements made by the suspects in custody. On an application by the CID the Judge remanded the suspect couple till October 20.

Two Sri Lankan book exhibitions in Australia

Two Sri Lankan Book exhibitions will take place in Melbourne and Sydney respectively on November 20 and December 4 by Dayawansa Jayakody & Company, a Publishing House in Sri Lanka, on the invitation of the Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka Inc (SPUR).

Dayawansa Jayakody, Managing Director of the Publishing House said that arrangements have been finalised to hold the two book exhibitions as a part of the celebrations of the Tenth anniversary of the SPUR and Ranjith Soysa in Melbourne is organising these exhibitions.

One of the highlights of the opening ceremony of the book exhibition in Melbourne will be the launching of Award Wining author Jayakody Seneviratne's latest novel 'Bakini Mala'. It is his 44th novel. Senevirathne was the winner of the 1984 State Literary Award for his novel " Kumarihamy".

The book exhibition in Sydney will be opened with the launching of 'Randenigala Walawwa', the latest novel written by Saman Dissanayaka, now domiciled in Sydney.

Both books are published by Dayawansa Jayakody and Company.
