Visit of Egyptian FM to boost bilateral ties

Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asia Dr. Ezzat Saad El Zayed will visit Sri Lanka next week to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, a media release from the Foreign Ministry states.

Zayed will hold bi-lateral talks with Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Prof. Wiswa Warnapala on important economic, trade and investment issues including the expansion of the Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The Assistant Minister who is currently on an Asian tour is also expected to visit Bangladesh, Thailand and Vietnam. He began his tour from Singapore. Foreign Ministry Secretary G. S. Palihakkara, Director General Middle East and Africa Division W. M. Seneviratne will also attend these discussions.

Proposals to set up joint ventures in the manufacture of chandeliers, machine made carpets and electronic goods such as cookers, ovens, air conditioners and allied products in Sri Lanka is in the agenda for talks between the two counterparts.

Egypt will explore the possibility of offering technical assistance in the areas agriculture, irrigation and water resources management to Sri Lanka. They will also discuss the setting up of joint ventures on rubber and coir based products in Egypt with our assistance.
