PC kills five and shoots himself

A police constable who allegedly shot dead five at their house and injured a student, committed suicide by shooting himself yesterday.

The body of Police Constable Tillakaratne was found at his residence.

The dead are, H.K. Dharmapala, 55, and his wife Baby Vivian, 53, and Vasana Dilhan, 20, Babita Fernando, 50, and Dinushine Wasana, 12.

Dinesh Kumar 12 is receiving treatment at the intensive care unit of the Colombo National Hospital.Negombo Magistrate Kanthie Wanigasekera was scheduled to visit the scene of the crime.

The killing was committed over a family dispute, police said. Investigations are continuing.
