Young ones in their thousands kept streaming into the BMICH from Saturday to enjoy the fun, entertainment and thrills while at the same time garnering knowledge at the Information, Communication and Education (ICE) Exhibition and Butterfly Carnival. The carnival organised by the Information and Media Ministry in collaboration with the Presidential Secretariat, Education Ministry and Ports and Aviation Ministry was choc a bloc on Saturday with parents and children enjoying the exquisite fair. There were merry go rounds, joy rides, games of chance, trade and food stalls, magic shows etc. to keep the crowd entertained, together with features catering to knowledge and education of the children. This national program on the theme Celebrating Childhood designed to afford education cum entertainment to coincide with International Children's Day is actively supported by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL) and Independent Television Network. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse opened the carnival on Saturday in the company of Information and Media. Ports and Aviation Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Lake House Chairman Janadasa Peiris, SLRC Chairman M. M. Zuhair and ITN head Newton Gunaratne. The objective of the Carnival and Exhibition is to provide experience and inspiration to children of various age groups giving consideration to their knowledge, education and entertainment. Today is the last day of the exhibition. |
