Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar meets with Thailand’s Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai in Bangkok yesterday. Leaders from seven countries are in Thailand for their first Economic summit, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar,Sri Lanka,Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal, are expected to attend the BIMST-EC summit to build closer links in transport and tourism starting July 30-31.

Six sailors killed as oil tanker explodes off Lankan shores

Six sailors including two engineers were killed when an oil tanker exploded in international waters close to the south-east coast of Sri Lanka.

Lanka-Thailand will sign FTA - Minister Kadirgamar

Bangkok July 28. Sri Lanka will sign a Free Trade Agreement with Thailand to increase trade between the two countries said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Lakshman Kadirgamar.

Both parties want peace but no progress - Helgessen

The visiting Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgessen said yesterday that the two parties, the Government and the LTTE were committed to peace although there was no progress to report in terms of an early resumption of peace talks.
