News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Stern action if Rosy proved involved in political activities Although Foreign Affairs Minister, Tyronne Fernando had denied the alleged involvement of Mrs. Rosy Senanayake, the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Malaysia, in political activities whilst in Sri Lanka, the President's Office learns from reliable sources that she had, in fact involved herself in such activities, as supported by evidence received from two districts. The President had pointed out that in case the allegation is proved it would be tantamount to a violation of the traditional policy, that all diplomats should totally refrain from political activities during the tenure of their office. In the letter addressed to the Foreign Minister the President reiterated that she would not hesitate at all, to take stern disciplinary action, if the information received is found to be correct, states the Presidential Secretariat in a press release yesterday. The Foreign Minister had stated that Mrs. Rosy Senanayake is presently in Sri Lanka along with some Malaysian businessmen to organize a trade fair. However, the Minister had also stated that he could initiate action against Mrs. Rosy Senanayake in case there is specific evidence in support of the allegation levelled against her. |
