The doctors' strike entered its eight day yesterday paralysing the public health sector as the striking doctors warned to stop admissions to the Badulla and Peradeniya Teaching Hospitals if a meeting scheduled yesterday afternoon with the Health Minister did not materialise to forge a satisfactory solution.

Former Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse said a future Alliance Government would assure the rights of all, Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims as it can assure lasting peace in the country after discussions with the LTTE and all other parties to the North-East problem.

Freedom Alliance hasn't clear policies, says PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe questioned how the Freedom Alliance was going to solve the unemployment problem which had created unrest among the youth. "The Freedom Alliance has no clear policies to solve this ranging issue," said the Premier adding that the recent policy statement of the Alliance had only given a lot of promises to the people.
