President waits for PM's return to take over DLB President Chandrika Bandaranaike yesterday said her decision to take over the Development Lotteries Board would be implemented definitely after the return of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe from his trip abroad. A press release issued yesterday by Presidential Media Director Janadasa Peiris states that in the light of certain Cabinet Memoranda presented during the recent past it has been obvious that there was a bid to divert the profits of the Development Lotteries Board to prevent the flow of such profits to the credit of the President's Fund. In view of the threats and dangers so posed , the President has decided to confirm the implementation of her take over of the Development Lotteries Board immediately on the Prime Minister's return from abroad. Protest campaign cripples estate life Normal life in the tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya came to a standstill yesterday with transportation and other essential services disrupted due to an agitation campaign by plantation workers led by Minister Arumugan Thondaman. Shops in the major towns in the Nuwara Eliya district put up shutters while schools were closed as a result of poor attendance by both teachers and students, reports added. |
