by Sarath Malalasekera R.W. Jayaratne alias Weerakoon of Suriyawewa who had been remanded in connection with the killing of PA Southern Provincial Council Minister M.K. Ranjith alias Chandi Malli, was yesterday further remanded till July 7 by the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne. The other three suspects who are alleged to have been involved in the killing of M.K. Ranjith will be produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate on July 7 for an identification parade, Southern Range DIG D.W. Prathapasinghe said. Four special police teams were deployed earlier by the Colombo DIG on the direction of IGP T.E. Anandarajah to trace the killers of Southern Provincial Minister M.K. Ranjith. The Provincial Minister was shot dead by unidentified gunmen close to the High Security Zone at York Street, Colombo on the morning of May 25. He was killed while returning after appearing before the CID on a court order. SP Gamini Dissanayake, Director CCD SP Sarath Lugoda and ASP Hettiarachchi are assisting in the investigations. |
