Lankem Agro records all-time high turnover and profits

Lankem Agro Chemicals Limited, the core Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of Lankem Ceylon Limited has recorded all-time high turnover and profits for the financial year 2002/2003, showing a robust 41% sales growth and a 51% growth in profits compared to the previous year's achievement, the company said in a statement.

Lankem Agro Chemicals Company with over 40 years in Agro Chemical Business is the flag bearer of world renowned Agro Chemical manufacturing giants such as World's number one Syngenta of Switzerland, Monsanto and Dupont of USA, A. H. Marks and Maxicrop of U.K. Kumiai, Arysta and Nissan of Japan.

The Lankem Agro Chemical Company has been supporting the farmer community in Sri Lanka to increase productivity and yield providing high quality pesticides for weed control, insect control and fungus control, so that in turn the farmers whose main source of income is from agriculture could lead a better life if they reap a rich harvest.

The company officials attributed the achievement to the synergy they have applied by converting individuals to one dedicated and committed cohesive "team," working towards one common vision.

The direction was set and the team is led by their General Manager Lt. Commander Damith Vitharana.

"He gave leadership and guidance and lead Lankem Agro to grow and develop to its present heights.

Not only he guided and motivated his fellow employees but also maintained an excellent rapport with the stakeholders by appreciating their commitment and loyalty to the Company and also introduced numerous incentives for dealers, a company spokesman said.

This unique incentive was the three brand new luxury cars each worth Rs. 1.4 million given as gifts for the Best Three Lankem Agro Chemical Distributors. The winners of the incentive scheme were S. M. Rajapillai, Proprietor of Central House - Girandurukotte, Ratnayake Palliyage Eral, Proprietor of Ratnayake Stores, Angunukolapelessa and A. M. Dissanayake Bandara, Proprietor of S. D. Distributors of Kurunegala.

A ceremony was held at the company premises recently to hand over the three luxury cars to the winners where the General Manager of Lankem Agro Lt. Cdr Damith Vitharana delivered the keynote address. S. D. R. Arudpragasam, Deputy Chairman of Lankem handed over the car keys to the winners.

Lt. Cdr Vitharana had prepared a five-year strategic plan and the company is in the process of accomplishing it with their vision "To be the First One Billion Turnover Company in the Year 2005 while contributing to agricultural Produce in order to be a prominent member of the National Task of being self-sufficient in food".
