The Central Bank commenced active Open Market Operations in March 2003. With the introduction of the new system of OMO, the Bank indicated to the market that it would make regular public announcements on monetary policy, a press release from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka said.

In order to increase market awareness and improve market stability, the Central Bank has decided to announce in advance, the dates on which the Bank would make its monetary policy announcements. Accordingly, the planned dates for the Bank's monetary policy announcements for the rest of 2003 are as follows:

May 9, June 13, July 9, August 15, September 9, October 16, November 11 and December 18.

Any changes to this general calendar will be communicated to the market. It should be noted, however, that if conditions warrant, the Bank would make changes to its monetary policy on dates other than those announced in this general advance release calendar.

The issue of an advance release calendar will be a regular feature of dissemination of information on monetary policy by the Central Bank, the release said.
