May Day helped distinguish real left - Amunugama

by Uditha Kumarasinghe

" This May Day has helped the people clearly distinguish the real left from the right. True to its anti-labour policies the Government failed to conduct a May Day in collaboration with the JSS this year. However, the CWC and the Upcountry People's Front held their May Day rallies," PA Media Spokesman Dr. Sarath Amunugama told the PA weekly media briefing on Friday. This year's May Day celebration clearly showed the UNP attitude towards the working class, he said.

The country's working class has never been placed in this tragic situation. The working class have no opportunity within the upmarket policies of the UNF Government. When the UNP leaders were eating buriyani at Hawkers Street, the working class were gritting their teeth, Amunugama said. The PA appeals to all workers attached to the JSS to give up its membership and join the PA which is the only entity that could guarantee the rights of the working class, he said.

He said when the PA and the JVP talks are successfully going on, all of a sudden, the UNP has remembered the late President R. Premadasa who had been completely forgotten for the past 10 years.
