New Zealand await World Cup fate after Canada romp New Zealand brushed aside Canada by five wickets here on Monday and then waited for other results to know if they had qualified for the World Cup Super Sixes. Having bowled out Canada for 196 despite John Davison's 75 off 62 balls, the Kiwis hit out to secure victory in 23 overs at the Willowmoore Park and take their nett run-rate to 0.99. Scott Styris, who began the tournament with a century against Sri Lanka, ended the league with 54 not out off 38 balls. New Zealand finished their league engagements with 16 points, the same as Sri Lanka and hosts South Africa who were playing their last match under the Kingsmead lights at Durban on Monday. Kenya have already qualified for Group B, leaving the Kiwis, South Africa and Sri Lanka to battle for the remaining two places. The Kiwis, who lost their opening game to Sri Lanka, played their best cricket to defeat both South Africa and the West Indies. That should have been enough to see them through to the next round, except the decision to forfeit the game against Kenya at Nairobi on February 21 has returned to haunt them. Davison, who smashed the fastest World Cup century off 67 balls against the West Indies earlier in the tournament, decimated the Kiwi attack with 75 off 62 balls that included nine boundaries and four sixes. Two of those sixes off seamer Jacob Oram sailed out of the Willowmoore Park as Davison reached 50 off just 25 deliveries. But as the South Australian state player went for another big hit, he was deceived in the air by Chris Harris and lofted the ball straight to Chris Cairns on the long-on fence. It was enough for the Kiwis to sense an opening and allowed Canada to score just 116 runs more after they were happily placed at 80-2 in the 15th over. Oram fought back after the early battering from Davison to claim 4-52 while fast bowler Shane Bond finished with 3-29 from his 10 overs. Canada: I. Maraj lbw b Bond 0 J.
