News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Govt will take quick measures for social security - Minister Samaraweera by Wennappuwa Central group correspondent "The Government will take quick, bold and far-reaching decisions in providing social security facilities to the working class citizens of our country to enjoy happy and contended living in the evening of their lives. This category includes daily wage earners and self employed persons," said Social Welfare Services Minister Ravindra Samaraweera at a meeting held at the Nattandiya Town Hall last week. This meeting was held to hand over Social Security Welfare Pension entitlement certificates to one thousand members enrolled under the scheme in the Nattandiya Divisional Secretariat area. Under the Social Security Pension Scheme 1000 members will receive a monthly pension payment of Rs. 300,000. Minister Samaraweera said, most of our working class brothers and sisters in their prime age contribute their labour, talent and energies for the welfare and development of the country and the nation. They should not be allowed to fade away and get into oblivion in their old age. "The social security pension schemes directly aimed to provide social security to a larger segment of our population," he said. He also said this scheme is also projected to alleviate poverty from our country. The Government is mapping out strategy in utilising this social security pension scheme as a powerful weapon to eradicate poverty from our country. Looking from a wider angle this scheme could be effectively applied to establish social justice, equality and fraternity in our society. "The plans have been already finalised to broadbase the scheme embracing the whole nation. Minister also requests public to co-operate with the Government by joining the scheme in large numbers. Puttalam district Parliamentarian Sugath Tissera said the Government has brought the benefits of great benevolent scheme, the social security pension scheme to the doorstep of the villager. Tissera also said that this social security scheme envisages the vision of social justice to all citizens in the country. The ceremony was organised by the Divisional Secretary Nattandiya H. J. M. Ariyasena. Jagath Thenuwara, Nattandiya Pradeshiya Sabha, Ravi Jayalath Dissanayaka, District Secretary Puttalam, H. J. M. Ariyasena, Divisional Secretary, Nattandiya, and Mrs. Malanie Samarasinghe, Directres, Social Welfare Security Council also spoke. The Ministerial team also made an official inspection tour of social Institutes of the Divisional area. Minister Samaraweera who visited the Dunkannawa Swarnadama Social Service Institute instructed the officials to provide six sewing machines, when he visited the Lansigama Elders Home he promised to provide 500 chairs to the newly constructed hall and at Talwila Moderawella beach he promised to take action resand bar at the beach affecting the fishermen. |
