by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi A team of doctors comprising plastic surgery specialists from Australia are now in Sri Lanka to perform advanced plastic surgeries at the Colombo National Hospital. Hospital Director Dr. Hector Weerasinghe said the team will perform plastic surgery free of charge on patients who are required to undergo complicated surgeries. Such patients have already been selected by local surgeons, out of the total patients referred to them by various hospitals. This four member team comprised two Consultant Plastic Surgeons, one consultant anaesthetist and one nurse. " The team will stay here four about two weeks and they are expected to perform around 50 surgeries." added Dr. Weerasinghe. The team had been sent by an Australian organisation named " Intraplast " which had dispatched several similar medical teams from time to time during the past few years. Last year, two teams visited here and performed around 60 surgeries which had been very successful. Dr. Weerasinghe said the team will pay more attention to relatively complicated cases." While performing surgeries on such cases, they will provide a training for the local doctors too." he added. |
