Nepal celebrates National Day

The Lankan Embassy in Nepal celebrated 55th National Day of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu on February 4. The Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held in the morning at the Embassy premises.

The program for the ceremony included hoisting of the National Flag, observance of two minutes silence as a mark of respect for the fallen heroes, lighting of oil lamp, religious observances, reading of messages of the political leaders, and the Ambassador's message. Around 60 Sri Lankans attended the celebrations.

His Majesty Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, the King of Nepal congratulated Sri Lanka on the occasion of the National day of Sri Lanka.

The Chief of the Royal Palace Household, Royal Palace Press Secretary and the Acting Chief of Protocol visited the Official Residence of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka Mrs. Grace Asirwatham to convey King's felicitation message.

The Mission also hosted a reception for the political leaders, government officials and the diplomatic community. Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Prime Minister of Nepal, Speaker, Cabinet Ministers, Chief Justice and several other high dignitaries attended the reception.
