MCA 'A' Div cricket : Rain spoils in four games

The Singer-MCA Premier Division 50-overs league tournament took a few punches below the belt, last weekend, four matches postponed, due to the Indian 'A' tour, three matches interrupted by rain and one match abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Sampath Bank chalked up their first win beating Janashakthi by 32 runs, thanks to 85 runs fifth wicket partnership between Jeevan Mendis (36) and Janaka Siriwardena (55).

Commercial Bank playing back to back suffered two defeats, losing to John Keells by 9 wickets and the next day, going down to Ewis by 45 runs.

Janashakthi took a double blow when their match on Sunday against J. Keells was abandoned without a single ball bowled, Bloomfield once again proving a 'hoodo' venue for Janashakthi as it did last year.

At NCC - Sampath Bank beat Janashakthi by 32 runs in a match reduced to 31 overs a side due to overnight rain.

Sampath Bank 178 for 6 in 31 overs (Shantha Kalavitigoda 28, Upeka Fernando 25, Jeevan Mendis 36, Janaka Siriwardena 55, Ranga Dias 2/38, Tharaka Gunaratne 2/38).

Janashakthi 146 for 9 in 31 overs (Ashan Ranaweera 25, Ranga Dias 51, Dharshana Gamage 21 not out, Chandika Haturusinghe 2/28, Dinesh Perera 2/24).

At Reid Avenue - John Keells beat Commercial Bank by 9 wickets in a match reduced to 36-overs a side, due to overnight rain.

Commercial Bank 126 all out in 33.3 overs (Indika Konara 22, D. Fernando 26, S. Makawita 36, Jehan Mubarak, 3/14).

John Keells 129 for 1 in 29.5 overs (Trevor Cramer 23, S. Rodrigo 61 not out, Michael Vandourt 39 not out).

At NCC - Ewis beat Commercial Bank by 45 runs in a match reduced to 30 overs a aide due to overnight rain.

Ewis - 168 all out in 30 overs (Kamal Ranjan 49, Anushka Polonowita 25, Chaminda Boteju 28, Shantha Fonseka 2/34, Mangala Jayasena 2/26).

Commercial Bank 123 for 8 in 30 overs (Rally Tissera 54, Kamal Ranjan 2/21, E. Mudalige 2/15).

At Reid Avenue - Janashakthi vs John Keells called off at 10.15 a.m. due to waterlogged grounds.
