I take this opportunity to join the celebrations on a day that is cherished by Muslims in Sri Lanka and across the World - The Meelad-un-Nabi celebrations on the birth of the Holy Prophet of Islam, President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga said in a Meelad-un-Nabi message. She said: "Prophet Mohammed sustained the values of tolerance, harmony and brotherhood. His universal teachings preached humanism and compassion highlighting the path of non violence as the better path to peace. On this important occasion of the Prophet's birthday, let us strive to conform to his teachings by promoting peace and harmony first in our hearts and then with all others. In line with the spirit of his teachings, let us furthermore lay aside our differences and unite to propel our nation to greater heights. "I wish to extend my heartiest good wishes to the Muslims of Sri Lanka on this very special day." |
