The
Golden Splendour at Buddha Gaya
A new day do I see,
the unmatched Sri Pada do I see,
Giving of its feeling
and of worship
The seat of Buddha thus receives,
Oh! this Great Bodhi tree
of purity universal, and so supreme!
Rears of joy, and of sorrow
doth bring to devotees Buddhist
visits to four sanctuaries of reverence,
The Sri Maha Bodhi,
the second of such refuges,
Spreading myriads of Buddha Rays
Wider and wider
in the universal sky.
The railing and canopy
of gold thus made,
All senses doth mesmerise
and which as if
of a colour of golden hue
Extracted from the six-fold coloured
radiance
as a treasure of grandeur immense
no less synonymous to mount of Meru
What enchantment of Buddhism
immortal
of golden railing of golden canopy,
in aspiration of emancipation
Hath the isle of Lanka gifted!
Is not this legacy a symbol
that glitters day and night
in the Buddhist world
Of an era new, of a Buddhist chronicle!
A chain of golden railing
A chain of golden canopy
yet, so well done
Doth confirm more and more
and forever and ever
A bond in common that doth exist
within the two lands
linked in religion Buddhistic
Protection doth bestow
the first golden railing
of the city of Anuradhapura;
And Kandy doth boasts
of one such other
The meritorious Ferry
of the Buddha Gaya of India
so adorned and so symbolished
From era to era is history written
when a Head of State of Lankan rule
and of devotees Buddhist
protection doth afford
To a culture Buddhist and a heritage
of glory
doth thus erect
A golden railing
and a canopy golden
Of lustrous colour
a golden railing and golden canopy
to the Buddha bestowed
Carrieth not the wisdom
of the Buddha Gaya so portrayed
at grounds of the Sri Maha Bodhi
Speak of a devotion and of piety
of the Chieftain of this land!
