by Jayantha Sri Nissanka Presidential Security Division (PSD) Director Nihal Karunaratne surrendered before Kandy Chief Magistrate C.V. Rajapakse yesterday afternoon. He was bailed out in a sum of Rs. 100,000 with two sureties by the Magistrate. Karunaratne's arrest warrant was withdrawn thereafter by the Magistrate. He was wanted in connection with charging death threats against Hanguranketha Police Inspector Gunaratne Bandara on November 19. Karunaratne was evading police without giving a statement to the CID. Kandy Chief Magistrate issued an arrest warrant against him on January 29. Magistrate Rajapakse had ordered him to give a statement to the CID on or before three day and ordered him to appear in courts on February 12. The PSD Chief had allegedly made death threats to the Police officer Bandara at the Poramadulla Vidyalaya premises where the President held a public meeting on November 19. Karunaratne was accompanied by President's Counsel Anil Obeysekara and Prasanna Obeysekara. |
