Police Courtesy Week by Sarath Malalasekera A Courtesy Week has been organised by the Police Headquarters in keeping with the Government 100-Day programe. Several proposals have been circulated among the Officers in Charge of all police stations in the country, said Police Public Relations and Media Director Senior SP Rienzie Perera. The proposals include, to establish a reception centre in all police stations at which a woman police officer will receive the members of the public in a courteous manner who will direct them to the appropriate sections. The room where statements/complaints are recorded will be brightened up and adequately furnished. To buid up a friendly atmosphere with the public, the officers have been advised to address the public - Sir or Madam. Certified copies of complaints to be issued on the same day of request. To introduce "community police centres" in all police areas to have patrols in the area. The Police officers have also been directed to take prompt action on the complaints made to the police. To review the "Triple Peace Concept". To collect intelligence about unlicensed weapons. To round up narcotics dealers and to open a separate desk to record statements of children and women. |
