Addressing the meeting held at Mawanella, Professor Tissa Vitharana said; "A Government that was elected for six years by the working masses of this country just less than two years ago was brought down by conspiracies hatched by the vested interests and capitalist reactionaries. "The United National Party, foreign multinational companies and local capitalist forces are involved in this conspiracy of bringing down the PA Government." Speaking at length, Professor Tissa Vitharana said that the December 5th, General Election is a crucial election and that the working masses should come to an intelligent decision in casting their votes. The Professor said, "I say that the December 5th Election is crucial, because it is definitely going to be a decision making election, so as to the preservation of the hard won rights of the working classes. "The economic freedom of the people gained in the past few years under the PA Government and most of all, the era that brought down the fear psychosis the people under the UNP misrule. "If the people cannot live without fear in one's own home there is no independence or liberty for him and this was an experience that many had to face under a fascist regime before the advent of the PA Government in 1994." |
