News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | 'PA victory inevitable' by Thihagoda group correspondent A clear and resounding victory at the forthcoming General Election for the "Chair", the symbol of the People's Alliance, would be the hard endeavour of all People's Alliance candidates contesting the Matara District, said Chandrasiri Gajadeera, former Deputy Minister and PA Candidate for the Matara District. He was addressing a well attended PA election rally in Wewahamanduwa, Matara. "The present Government under the far sighted and able leadership of the President, Chandrika Bandaranayake Kumaratunga has done much to bring about a lasting peace and steady social and economic development in this country. Therefore our political opponents would never be able to prevent the victory of the PA at this parliamentary polls. The UNP and the business mafia in this country who were totally against the peoples friendly moves launched under the 'Memorandum of Understanding', signed with the JVP, wanted to bring down the on-going administration and destabilise the country. The malicious motive of the UNP and their alliance was to grab power in the country even through feeding 'Tigers' whoever trying to break up the country-into two. The greatful people in this country would not forget the yeoman service rendered to the country by this Government. They would give a mandate to the People's Alliance at this General Election again, to proceed with the peace process and future economic development activities in Sri Lanka", predicted the Gajadeera PA Candidate for the Matara District. Several speakers also addressed this well attended election meeting. |
