We categorically condemned the incidents of a few days ago at Hambantota where the UNP candidate Sajith Premadasa's house and the party office were attacked by supporters of the Peoples' Alliance. Kodituwakku also condemned the recent election violence at Nattandiya where some UNP'ers were attacked by several PA supporters. If proper action was not taken by the Government against such unlawful activities more election related violence could erupt in other areas too within the next few weeks. Kodituwakku lamented the poor behaviour of certain police officers and said that they must act impartially at this decisive moment by not indulging in unnecessary activities on the instructions of politicians. Referring to a recent interview of Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka, published in 'Silumina' Kodituwakku said some important facts relating to the position of the future Prime Minister were purposely deleted from the text on the instruction of a powerful Minister. Prof. G.L. Peiris said that the Government was running out of funds at the moment. Of Rs. 252 million credited to EPF and ETF accounts last year, Rs. 232 million had already been spent wrongfully, he added. |
