The Gampaha District UNP Candidate, Sarathchandra Rajakaruna, addressing an election meeting at Udamitta Junction in the Attanagalla Electorate, said, "We are sure to win the forthcoming election, and there will be no post election violence this time.

Senior Minister of the last PA Government, Prof. G. L. Peiris and S. B. Dissanayake were now with the UNP. They are with us today to defeat the inefficient PA Administration and solve the accumulated problems facing the country." Rajakaruna said that Attangalla was not an unfamiliar place for him. The previous UNP regime had provided this area with infrastructural facilities such as electricity, telephones to improve the quality of life of all.
