JVP to usher in a civilized political culture

The former JVP MP and Kalutara District leader Nandana Gunathileke issuing a press release states that the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had entered the December 5 polls to usher in a civilised political culture whilst doing their utmost to safeguard the territorial integrity and sovereignty within a unitary State whereby all communities be they Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher, or Malay could live in peace.

Gunathileke says the two capitalist parties the UNP and the SLFP had demolished the country and deceived the masses to the core during their pungent 53 year rule and the JVP was the only political force which had emerged as the driving force to usher in a peaceful society with a vibrant development programme to suit her dire needs.

He states in his press release that the objective of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna is three-fold at the Parliamentary elections which is just around the corner.

Firstly, the JVP will not allow the separation of this country by any group or force be it the North and East or the South. It is the motto of the JVP that all threats made to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka should be defeated forthwith by all progressive forces.

For as long as the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna is actively engaged in mainstream politics the activities of the reactionary forces including the separatist elements will be wiped out from the soil of this country and the JVP solicits the support of the masses in this endeavour.

Secondly, Nandana Gunathileke says that the political culture which has been debauched by the power and wealth hungry politicians of the UNP and the PA during their 24 year rule should be erased and the JVP will strive to create a civilised political culture whereby the proud history of this nation could be taught to the younger generation.

He says that as the JVP MP's do not crave for perks and posts they are the most suitable party to revive the country's once resplendent history which has been besmirched by successive governments.

And lastly, he says it is the firm view of the JVP that they will campaign to put a stop to the environmental pollution which has led to a spate of floods and a severe drought recently.

He states that both the UNP and the PA does not have a clue to the concerns raised by the environmentalists and the JVP will oppose any moves to destroy and sell the forests and other natural resources of the country.

The JVP former Parliamentary Group Member, also says that the JVP had got religious leaders, academics, and other professionals from a variety of fields to obtain their knowhow before drawing their nation building programme in view of the December 5 polls.

He called on the people to render their backing to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna at the hustings for the sake of the country and her citizens.
