UNP home and home clash A UNP supporter received cut injuries when two groups of supporters of UNP candidates in Polonnaruwa district clashed on Monday night at Aralaganwila, police said. Police identified the two groups as those of the supporters of H. G. P. Nelson and Earl Gunesekera. Tamil resident in London killed Sellathurai Balasingham, a 36 year old resident of Micham in South West London was killed in an unprovoked attack about 11 p.m. after he returned from work. The victim parked his car - a P registration Honda Civic and started walking home when he had been chased and attacked by two or three men. The victim has been struck with a blunt weapon two or three times on the head. Detective Inspector Field of the Serious Crime Group said "Police are appealing for any information who knew the attackers. This is a callous crime in which a man has been viciously and seemingly indiscriminately attacked. This murder left a woman without a partner". In recent months there have a spate of crime in London and in the neighbouring counties between Tamil gangs who have 'imported' their rivalry from Jaffna in Sri Lanka. Though they are not terrorist related incidents the Metropolitan Police are rather worried of the state of affairs as they receive no information leading to any arrests. One Yard officer said that they do seem to be meting out summary 'justice' to their opponents. Heroin suspects remanded Ratnapura Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge K.M.S. Dissanayake remanded four suspects on charges of possessing heroin pending prosecution recently. The four suspects Razik Mohamed Kalli, Mohamud Mumthas, H.A. Saman Kumara and Kareen Naina were caught red-handed, with 30, 60, 90 and 60 milligrams of heroin respectively by a team of police officers. |
