NE Combined team overcame Melbourne's FGDCA and AHF

It was a tremendous performance when North and East Combined team
overcame the combined under 18 side from Melbourne's Ferntree Gully
District Cricket Association and the Australian Hellenic Federation by
57 runs in the T20 match played at the Kilinochchi Central College
Grounds last Sunday.

The North and East Combined team having won the toss batted first and
scored 174 for 6 in their 20 overs with A L Nadeesha collecting 51 runs.
In reply Australian combine team made only 117 runs in 17.3 overs.
Lohathieswar and Kollins Johnson of North and East combine took three
wickets each while Pirishankar took two wickets.
It was a different experience for the Australian young team to play
on a matting wicket in Kilinochchi. A L Nadeeshan of Sinhala Maha
Vidyalaya , Trincomalee was awarded the man of the match for his half
century.
He also won the best batsman award while Kollins from St Patrick's
College, Jaffna was adjudged the best bowler of the match.
The under 17 combined North and East team consisted of players from
Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitive, Vavuniya, Baticaloa and Trincomalee.
The match was witnessed by thousands of fans from Kilinochchi and most
of them enjoyed the local and Australian youth talent on Sunday evening.
On the other hand to play with Australian youths was the most
important experience for local school cricketers form North and East and
the best opportunity to show their talents. One is Anajana Nulupul who
was busy behind the wicket showing his capability towards a long
journey.
The 57 brigade had taken immense effort to ready the ground, changing
rooms, stands and other facilities suitable for a foreign team to arrive
and play cricket in Kilinochchi, a 7 hour distance from Colombo. For the
first time each member of the playing team had the opportunity to
participate in harmony cricket game.
The Foundation of Goodness and David Cruse from G'Day Sri Lanka were
instrumental in bringing the Australian under 18 combined team to play
in Kilinochchi. |
