Police bust vehicle racket
Suspects rented vehicles, changed chassis and
engine numbers:
The Western Province Police Intelligence Unit
arrested a man and his assistant, a garage bass , who rented
vehicles and then changed the chassis and engine numbers and sold
them to unsuspecting customers. Among the vehicles stolen by the
suspects were cars, lorries and vans. The arrest was made after
months of close surveillance.

Over 15,000 bullets unearthed from beach
Over 15,000 bullets used for T-56 rifles,
believed to be remnants of LTTE ammunition were unearthed at the
Kayankerny beach in the Vakarai Police area, in the Batticaloa
District last evening.

Houses for War Heroes
The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Defence and Urban
Development Ministry donated two newly built houses under the Api
Wenuwen Api project and handed them over to two war heroes at a
ceremony at Padiyathalawa recently.
