Back in the year 1999, this was a concept which was initiated in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and the Ministry of Education with a participation of 198 teams. Owing to this championship program teams have gained immense momentum and popularity over the past 14 years. Undoubtedly, DSI has successfully & steadfastly fostered Sri Lanka's national sport - volleyball through the years bearing immense respect for the national game. Increased participation from every nook and corner of the country provides us with evidence about the success and popularity of the competition.

With over 5473 teams and almost 65,000 players participating in the previous championship proves the fact that this tournament has given every opportunity and support to bring both rural and urban players to a national level platform in order to showcase their talent in the sport. More importantly, grand finale of the championship 2012 was held at the newly opened Nawalapitiya National Stadium.

This year the organisers hope to attract a record of over 5500 teams in an effort to popularize the sport in virtually every school around the island.

The championship tournament will be conducted in District, Provincial and National levels, under both male and female categories. Participants should belong to either, under 18, under 16 and under 14 categories to be in order for them to become eligible for the tournament.

The Championship commenced on Thursday. District matches will be held till July 21. Provincial level matches will be held from August 3 to 11, whilst the National level matches are scheduled from October 4 to 6. The Grand Final match is scheduled to take place on October 25 and 26, 2013.
