Over 80 gamblers arrested from Colombo 7 Club

The Organised Crimes and Fraud Prevention Division of the Police arrested over 80 persons on Monday while gambling in a club in the heart of Colombo 7 which did not possess a licence for gambling.

They also took into custody three persons who ran the club.

The Police Organised Crimes and Fraud Prevention Division conducted the raid acting on a tip-off. The raid was carried out after obtaining a search warrant issued by court. The Club was located in Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Police sources this club did not have a licence for gambling.

The Police also took into custody three card packs, six gambling tables and chairs used for gambling and Rs. 95,000.

Eighteen persons who were arrested were released on police bail. The trio who operated the club are to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court with the seized items.
