Five accused get death sentence

Five persons found guilty of abducting and committing the murder of a person by cutting him with sharp implements were sentenced to death by the Moneragala Provincial High Court Judge Gihan M. Kulatunge on July 1.

In this case R. K. D. Piyadasa of Kotabowa, K. D. John of Ikiriyanpolalanda, Mohamed Niyaz of Kajulwela, and R. K. D. Sugathadasa and K. D. Upul Kumara of Kalugahawadiya were indicted by the Attorney General with having committed the abduction and murder of D. M. Mahinda of Kalugahawadiya on October 11, 2002.
