Disunity impedes development - Minister

Disunity among politicians is a barrier for the country's development, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

The minister made this observation while participating as the Chief Guest at the opening of the Ranala Pivithuru Social Service Committee building at Ranala, Kaduwela constructed under the Eka Gamakata Eka Wedak programme.

Weerawansa said politicians should be united for the betterment of the public without considering their political views. He said politicians have to compete with other politicians for getting elected during the pre-election period.

But after the election, all should work together to achieve common targets.

"When we meet people during the election period, they make various requests. We have a responsibility to fulfill the needs of the people as much as we can do though they request or not", the minister said.

Western Provincial Councillors Hector Betmage, Jagath Kumara, Kaduwela Deputy Mayor Muddhika Jayavilal, Municipal Councillors Manoj Betmage, Deepal Hettiarachchi, Divisional Secretary N.S.P.Suriyapperuma and Pivithuru Social Service Committee President M.N.Gunatilake also participated.
