Mihiliya creates history

Sri Lankan squash sensation young Mihiliya Methsarani created history when she entered the under-17 girls’ semi-finals in the 20th Asian Junior Individual Championship 2013 working off at the El-Hassan International Squash Centre, Al-Hussein Sport City in Amman, Jordan . The tournament commenced on June 25 and will continue till June 29.

Mihiliya, the number one local player has shown a great consistency through out the tournament and will meet the top seeded Hong Kong player, Choi Uen Shan in her semi-final battle today. Mihiliya is a student of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Colloege, Colombo and is the first Sri Lankan to qualify for an Asian squash semi-final.

After her victory the Jordan Squash Federation official web site reported; “Top seed Choi Uen Shan of Hong Kong overcame Iranian Sogol Samoodi (5/8 seed) and will play M.Methsarani the number 1 and fast improving Sri Lankan in the semis”.

Top 16 local junior players are participating at the tournament and they are competing in girls/boys age categories under-13, 15, 17 and 19. In addition 10 selected reserve Junior players too joined the contingent. J.B. Pieris is the Sri lankan team manager and R.S. deen is the coach for the tour.
