Man hit by train
A 68-year-old man died after being hit by the Colombo bound Vavuniya
train at the rail crossing on Talawa-Kekirawa road on Wednesday around 3
pm.
W H William of Siyambalakulama, Galenbidunuwewa died in the incident.
The body was sent to Talawa rural hospital morgue.
Thalawa Police are investigating. Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man
receiving treatment after being hit by a train at Kaikawala junction
succumbed to injuries at the Balapitiya hospital. The train was plying
from Colombo to Galle
I D Lalith Dinesh of Induruwa died in the incident. The Kosgoda
police continue investigations.
Inmate nabbed with heroin
The Kandy Police in a raid at Bogambara prison, arrested an inmate
with 3.620 grammes of heron on Wednesday evening.
He was produced before the Kandy magistrate yesterday.
Meanwhile, Welikada Police on the same day arrested a woman with
2.800 grammes of heroin at Bandaranayakepura in Welikada.
The 48-year-old suspect was produced before the Aluthkade no 4
magistrate's court.
Body found in river
Following information received via 119 emergency service, Bentota
Police commenced an investigation into the death of a man whose body was
found in Bentara Ganga near a hotel in Bentota. The deceased was
35-year-old O K Susantha Kumara Deshapriya of Ganegoda, Elpitiya.
The body was sent to the Nagoda hospital morgue after the magisterial
inquest.
Fire at Maduru Oya reserve
The Maha Oya Police, Army and Air Force controlled a fire that
erupted in Maduru Oya forest reserve near Aralaganwila road around 10 pm
on Wednesday. Police were alerted via 119.
The Maha Oya Police are investigating.
Heroin dealer caught red handed
The Mount Lavinia division crime investigation unit on a tip-off on
Wednesday afternoon, arrested a suspect with 35 packets of heroin while
he was selling it in Badowita.
The 60-year-old suspect, a resident of the same area was produced
before the Mount Lavinia magistrate yesterday.
Shop on fire
A grocery shop in Badulla gutted after catching fire yesterday around
2 am. The Badulla fire brigade, Police and the people in the area
controlled the fire before it spread to other shops.
No casualties were reported. Badulla Police are investigating. |
