Overstaying foreigners’ nabbed

Negombo Police arrested two tourists, a Nigerian and a Guinean national, in Negombo for overstaying in Sri Lanka. They were produced before the Negombo magistrate yesterday.


Kandy Esala Perahera

The Kandy Esala Perahera of the Sri Dalada Maligawa will begin with the Kap planting ceremony at the four main devalayas in Kandy on August 7, Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela said. He said the first Kumbal Perahera will parade the streets on August 11. The Kumbal Perahera will continue for five consecutive days after which the Randoli Perahera will begin on August 15 and continue daily until the final Randoli Maha Perahera on August 20.


Book launch

A book on the political life and times of Kusuma Gunawardene titled Kusuma - Vamanshika Deshapalana Jeevithayak authored by Lakshmi Gunawardena will be launched at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Centre for International Relations Auditorium today at 10 am.

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa will be the Chief Guest.

Prof. Nimal de Silva and Government Information Department Director General Prof. Ariyarathne Athugala will deliver speeches.

Kusuma Gunawardene was the wife of former Mahajana Eksath Peramuna leader Philip Gunawardene.





 


International Symposium

The third International Symposium of the South Eastern University will be held at the Arts Faculty Auditorium of the Oluvil Campus on July 6 and 7 from 9.00 am. The symposium to be held under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. M. Mohamed Ismail will focus on emerging challenges on sustainable development and winning strategies through the research.

Central Bank Assistant Governor Dr. W. M. Hemachandra will deliver the key note address.


Quantity Surveyors’ Institute AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka Quantity Surveyors’ Institute will be held today at 5.30 p.m. at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo. Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa will be the Chief Guest.

Sri Lanka Central Bank Deputy Governor Dr. P. N. Weerasinghe will deliver the keynote address on the theme ‘Duties and Challenges’.

Ministry Secretary P. H. L. Wimalasiri Perera, Sri Lanka Port Authority Chairman Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrema, Sri Lanka Quantity Surveyors’ Institute chairman Hemantha Aponsu and Sri Lanka Construction Institute chairman Rohan Karunarathne will participate.


Dental Health Conference

The International Dental Health Conference 2013 will be held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre today under Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena’s patronage.

The event is jointly organised by the Sri Lanka Dental Association and the International Dental Association under the theme ‘New challenges in the dental health sector’.

Several representatives including IDA President Dr Orlando Montorio, Commonwealth Dental Association President Dr William O’Reilly, Asia Pacific Dental Federation President Dr A Rathnanesan and several others including specialist doctors from various countries will participate.


Anthonian’s Walk

Anthonian’s Walk 2013, organised by St Anthony’s Balika Maha Vidyalaya, Kollupitiya will be held on July 6.

This is organised to mark the school’s 75th anniversary celebrations.


Prisoners run agri farm

The Prisons Department established an agricultural farm in a seven acre land at the open air prison camp premises belonging to the Prisons Department of Daisyvalleywatta in Akmeemana.

Paddy has been cultivated in two acres. Vegetables and fruits have also been cultivated. Boossa prison camp's prisoners are running the farm.


Twenty chicken farms in Galle

The Animal Products Department will build 20 medium scale chicken farms in the Galle district. District Animal Products Department Assistant Director Sunil Keraminiyage said the department will provide Rs 30,000 for each farm.


Road developed in Haldummulla

The road from Haldummulla to Hambegamuwa in the Haldummulla Pradeshiya Sabha division is being developed at a cost of Rs 110 million allocated by the Economic Development Minister, said PS chairman R M Dhanaratne.


Man fined possessing illicit liquor

A man of Idandukitha-Mapanape, who was in possession of 1.5 litres of illicit liquor was fined Rs 6,000 by Morawaka District Judge Kusalani Ayodya.

Morawaka Police prosecuted.
