Former Wayamba PC member granted bail

Former Wayamba Provincial Council member Ananda Sarath Kumara (27)
remanded in connection with an incident in which he allegedly ordered a
female teacher to kneel before him, was released on Rs 5,000 cash and
two personal bail bonds of Rs 500,000 each when produced before the
Anamaduwa Magistrate yesterday.
The Magistrate also ordered him to report to Navagattegama Police on
the last Sunday of each month. A large crowd including Puttalam District
Parliamentarian Arundika Fernando was present at the Court premises to
receive Kumara after he was released on bail.
Meanwhile the North Western Provincial Councillor granted bail by the
Anamaduwa magistrate yesterday for ordering a teacher to kneel down as a
punishment, dashed coconuts at the Iyyanayake Devale seeking redress.
Ananda Sarath Kumara was arrested for forcing a teacher of Navodya
Vidayalaya in Nawagaththegama to kneel down as a punishment. His
supporters received him as he came out of the court premises and was
taken around Anamaduwa town. Kumara was later taken to the devale where
he dashed coconuts seeking redress.
Kumara was arrested following a complaint lodged by the school’s
disciplinary teacher. |
