Kandy ladies CP hockey champs

Kandy District women's team became Central Province hockey champion when they beat Matale District 2-0 in the tournament organised by the Sports Ministry of the Central Province and played at the Nandamithra Ekanayake Hockey Stadium, Matale on Monday.

At half time Kandy District led 1-0.

The losing side Matale District women's team put up a gallant show and their resistance was strong driving the first 20 minutes of the match.

But the Kandy ladies changed their Pattern of play to fox the Matale ladies team deference when left inside Chathurika Wijesuriya moved the ball to left flank and there sent a long pass to centre forward Madhushani Jayaneththi who sounded the boards with a neat drive.

The second too produced exhilarating hockey with the Matale ladies striving hand for the equaliser and there to go for a possible victory.

But they were thwarted by the good defence put up by the Kandy team.

In the 21st minute of the second half Kandy's centre half Maduro Dharmaratne dribbling into the opponents defence and sent a short pass to centre forward Madhushani Jayaneththi who scored. S.N. Jayasinghe and Roshan Hemantha umpired
