SL holds Second Int'l Conference in Japan
The Association of Sri Lankan Academics in Japan together with the
Sri Lankan Embassy in collaboration with Tokyo Institute of Technology,
International University of Japan, Saitama University and Sri Lanka-
Japan Study Centre of University of Peradeniya, organized the Second
International Conference titled "Emerging Sri Lanka: Sharing Japanese
Governance and Developmental Experience" at the Tokyo Institute of
Technology in Tokyo recently.
About 150 guests and participants attended the conference. Senior
academics, technocrats and experts addressed the conference. The first
International Conference on Emerging Sri Lanka was held in May 2012 at
the Sri Lankan Embassy in Tokyo.
President of the Association of Sri Lankan Academics in Japan and
Professor at International University of Japan N.S. Cooray delivered the
welcome address.
Ambassador Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda delivering the opening
address accentuated the topicality of the subject of Sharing Japanese
Governance and Developmental Experience. He said it is crucial to focus
on the development of human resources and education, which would enable
Sri Lanka to compete in a globalized milieu. Chancellor of International
University of Japan and former Japanese Ambassador to the UN in New York
Prof. Shinichi Kitaoka underlined bilateral relations between the two
countries and the manner in which Sri Lanka could become a developed
nation. |
