Some Tamil rock

American Idol has done wonders to the Sri Lanka entertainment
industry. Our TV channels have sponged tips off Simon Cowell, Randy
Jackson, Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest. Their ingenious idea- American
Idol has spawned productions such as Sirasa Superstar, Ranaviru Real
Star and Shakthi Superstar and Isai ilavarasargal. To deny this would be
utter idiocy because these Sri Lankan program have been copied from
American Idol.
But saying that one must applaud their innovativeness. In fact
Shakthi Superstar and Isai ilavarasargal ( Princes of Music) have seen
the creation of genuine Tamil rock. At the launch of Uyire last Friday
one of the first Tamil Rock bands emerged on the stage.
Their kind of music showed the potential for this kind of demand
amongst the Tamil speaking community.
The talent unearthed by Shakthi TV and Shakthi FM is praise worthy.
There is a lot of talent out there in the Tamil Speaking Community.
Their sonorous voices and intensity coupled with genuine passion has
seen the arrival ‘Uyire’ (‘Life’) featuring members of Shakthi Superstar
and Isai ilavarasargal.
“Uyire” is an album that is completely produced using local talent
and has ten songs, including a “Shakthi Anthem” |
