Murder of woman: man gets death sentence

A man convicted of the murder of a 37-year-old woman in the neighbourhood in her home at Thembiliya, Avissawella was sentenced to death by Kegalle Provincial High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundera on Thursday.

In this case, Madduma Bandarage Don Prasad Gunawardena, 45, of Thembiliya, Dehiowita was indicted with having committed the murder of Jayasuriya Arachchilage Anoma Swarnalatha, 37, of Tembiliya by hacking her with a weapon resembling a katty around 8.30 pm on May 16, 2003.
