NCC a boon to youths

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) helps the younger generation to
develop their skills and attitudes which would be of great help in
leading a successful life.
NCC assessment camps create a valuable opportunity to build a good
relationship between Sinhala and Tamil students, NCC Director Major
General Gamini Jayasundara said.
Events like assessments camps help to strengthen solidarity among
youths.
It also supports to make President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wish of a
peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka a reality, he added. All officers
attached to the NCC have a responsibility to support school cadets to
make this come true, he said.
Major General Jayasundera was addressing the passing out parade of
the battalion assessment camp of Jaffna 20 and Kurunegala 04 battalions
at the NCC parade grounds in Rantebe recently.
He said students who receive comprehensive training as a school cadet
under the NCC can face any challenge in their lives.
“All measures have been taken to make this training more effective
and successful under the guidance of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya
Rajapaksa,” he said.
Hartley College, Point Pedro won the champions’ trophy of the 20th
battalion while Nelliadi Madya Maha Vidyalaya won the runners-up trophy
and Wasavilan Madya Maha Vidyalaya bagged the second runners-up trophy.
The Champions’ trophy of the fourth battalion was won by St.Anne's
College, Kurunegala while Maliyadeva College and Nikaweratiya Madya Maha
Vidyalaya won the runners-up and second runners-up trophies.
Senior officers attached to the Tri-Forces and NCC, Principals and
academic staff of the schools and parents were present. |
