Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has stressed the
importance of environmental-friendly power-generation needed for future
investments in Sri Lanka.
Minister Rajapaksa said this when he discussed Sri Lanka’s future
energy requirements with representatives of the Natural Resources and
Energy Agency of Japan’s Economic, Trade and Industry Ministry and of
Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)
at the Ministry Office Colombo on Wednesday. The Economic Development
Minister told the delegation that 90 percent of Sri Lanka’s energy
requirements have already been met and that steps have been taken to
meet the balance without delay. He added that the country now has a
24-hour power supply with no power cuts.
NEDO is contributing to the resolution of global energy and
environmental issues, the establishment of a stable and secure energy
supply system and the promotion of Japanese industry through its
worldwide project activities to introduce Japan’s various technologies
and establish international standards. Outside Japan, NEDO has offices
in Washington, Paris, Beijing, Bangkok, Jakarta and New Delhi. Among
those who participated in the discussion were NEDO Chairman Kasuo
Furukawa and Deputy Director General Toshiko Fuji. |
