DIG Vaas Gunawardena interdicted

DIG Vaas Gunawardena who is in remand over the alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of a businessman has been interdicted, Police Media Spokesperson SP Buddhika Siriwardene said yesterday.

SP Siriwardene said the Public Services Commission had sanctioned the interdiction of DIG Gunewardene.

It was reported earlier that Inspector General of Police N.K. Ilangakoon had sent a report to Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa seeking interdiction of DIG Gunawardena. This had to be approved by the Public Services Commission. A businessman from Bambalapitiya Mohamed Siyam was abducted and murdered in the Dompe area on May 22. Following investigations, the CID arrested several policemen. Upon interrogating the arrested officers, the CID received information regarding DIG Gunawardena’s alleged involvement in the businessman’s murder.
